Along the river Allier, the testimonies of the former industries of coal and terra cotta are omnipresent. The crystalline soil making up the slopes of the Livradois is cut of deep gorges, and its rocks trap arsenic, barite, galena, coper… The rocks and minerals formerly ran are now found on the walls of churches, castles, farmer houses… Everywhere, directly or indirectly, the landscapes around Auzon refer to the earth, where human works from all epoch vigorously take roots.
Located between Le Puy-en-Velay and Clermont-Ferrand, the guidebook of Le Pays d’Auzon proposed 16 tours of small walks from 6 to 14.5 km (from 1h45 to 4h of walk), marked in yellow and certified Respirando (local label which guarantees to make pass the walks on public paths, with as less of tarmac as possible, with a follow up and maintenance of the markings…).
